Our little chick turned out to not be a chick at all. Edith turned into a giant rooster. 🐓 I have never seen a rooster as big as Edith is and he's only four months old. He towered over our other chickens. Addie was a little sad to say goodbye but luckily grandma has her own backyard farm for the kids to still visit it.
Our part of the city has a rule against roosters and we can't legally keep him. It's almost a relief because he was starting to become aggressive towards Grant. Edith was so big that he was pratically the same size as little Grant and started to see him as a threat. Danny had mentioned a few days before that he thought Edith was going to attack Grant because whenever he was outside with the chickens Edith would stare him down and not break eye contact. Poor Grant had no idea and would happily hand feed Edith and even give him treats to enjoy. Then yesterday after Grant had given him a treat he turned around and that's when Edith pounced on him. Luckily Danny and I were out there and we were able to grab him but poor Grant had no idea why any of it happened. The same night we get a text that our backyard neighbor was annoyed by the crows from Edith and informed us the rooster law for the area. By that point Danny and I were already talking about rehoming him to keep Grant safe so the timing didn't bother us at all. We called Donna and asked if we could bring our rooster there and she was happy to help. We actually ended up with a little tradeoff. We got rid of Edith and gained Scarlett. Edith never had a problem with any of the rest of us so Addie is a little torn because she truly loved him but she's also excited to get to know Scarlett.
