Joseph Knight Sr.

Addie had to share a family history story of one of our relatives in a stake activity the primary was having so I called my mom up to get some information on Joseph Knight Sr. I had always grown up hearing we were related but never knew how. Turns out it's on my Mom's Mom's side (my Grandma Ila Ernstsen). It took me on a search down my own family tree and found some pretty cool stories.

We had to write a little paper/story and send it to the primary presidency for their stake activity and this is what Addie had sent in.

Joseph Knight Sr. is Addie's 6th Great Grandfather. He was a very good friend of the Prophet Joseph Smith. They became good friends after the young Joseph Smith started working for him on his farm. The young boy told Joseph Knight Sr. about his vision and about the gold plates and Joseph Knight Sr. believed him. Joseph Knight really liked Joseph Smith and even let Joseph and Emma borrow his sled and horse while they were dating.

The prophet used his wagon again when it was finally time to go pick up the gold plates. Joseph Knight was one of the first to hear about what the gold plates looked like when the prophet returned after getting them.

Joseph Knight helped Joseph Smith while he was translating the gold plates by giving him shoes, money, paper and food. Once when the prophet was arrested Joseph Knight hired lawyers to get him out of jail.

When Addie's 6th Great Grandfather became really old, it was the prophet who helped him by giving him him his own cane for walking. Before Joseph Knight died while traveling to Utah, Joseph Smith wrote about him and told everyone that Joseph Knight Sr. was faithful, true, virtuous, a kind righteous man and that his name would never be forgotten.

This is for my own personal records. Joseph Knight Sr. is my 5th Great Grandfather. That's pretty cool.
